LATE SUMMER HIKES AND YARD PLAY BRING HIDDEN DANGERS

Newsletter August-2025

Protect your pets during late-summer outdoor fun! Learn how to spot and prevent foxtail injuries, stay safe from rattlesnakes, and keep your furry friends healthy on hikes and in the yard.

1.Foxtails

These barbed grass awns are more than just annoying. They can easily burrow into your pet’s paws, ears, nose, or even lungs, causing sneezing, persistent paw licking, swelling, limping, and potentially serious infections if not treated promptly.

2.Snakes

Venomous snakes, such as rattlesnakes, are particularly active during California’s hot summers. Curious pets exploring yards, trails, or open fields are at risk of dangerous bites, which can lead to severe pain, swelling, and even life- threatening conditions.

3.Heat and Sun Exposure

Prolonged sun and high temperatures can quickly put pets at risk of heatstroke, dehydration, or sunburn, especially flat- faced breeds, overweight pets, and senior animals. Signs include excessive panting, drooling, weakness, and lethargy, making it essential to monitor pets closely during outdoor activities.

Stay vigilant during outdoor adventures and check your pet thoroughly after every hike. Call our team if you notice any issues or want to discuss rattlesnake protection.
